Learning By Topic KS1: The Great Outdoors and Science

List minibeasts that are able to use camouflage to protect themselves from predators.

Classify:

  • Minibeasts by their movements: flying, walking, hopping, swimming, crawling, sliding
  • Minibeasts by bodyparts (e.g. number of legs), features, colours, protection.

What other ways can you think of to classify minibeasts? Top Tip: This activity can be made into a hands on activity by using minibeasts figurines or print outs of minibeasts to sort into categories.

Choose 5 minibeasts and draw and label the lifecycles of these minibeasts.

You may like to set up and study an ant farm or set up a habitat for caterpillars and observe the stages of caterpillars turning into butterflies.
